Letters and the Word

To the SSA Office:

387 days. That is the average amount of time it takes for you to make a decision? I am more than just a little confused.

He worked for 50 years. He didn’t just start working one day and decide the next to file for disability. He returned to work after 3 strokes, 1 bout of sepsis, 1 of double pneumonia, 1 of seizures. It takes you 387 days to decide if he can receive disability for the ONE year that it will take to get him to retirement age?

What kind of system is that?

Have you no humanity?

We have a graduate about to go to college, another child graduating next year, one still in elementary school.

We cannot wait 387 days.

After 50 years, it shouldn’t be that we have to worry about not having enough money to buy groceries – to pay for medications – to see the doctors.

It shouldn’t take this long to just say yes or no.

I ask you to please take 5 minutes today to review our case.

Take 5 minutes to review all the cases that have sat in limbo for months on end.

Have a little humanity.

It’s not your money – and it’s not like he didn’t pay into the system for 50 years.

We know that the system is not your fault. But please – please –
