To the Business Office:

I apologize for taking 150% of the hours capped for financial aid. I suppose the fact that I do not even understand what that means says I should never have signed up for financial aid in the first place.

I was confused because I took only the courses listed as required for each of the programs to which I belonged – both the doctoral program in Curriculum and Instruction, and the Principal as Instructional Leader certification program.

Now I am at danger of being dropped.

I took such care to make sure I was following the rules.

A 4.0 though only a 3.0 was required to meet satisfactory academic progress.

It’s like a gut punch.

I am in the dissertation phase – proposing this Thursday. Projected to graduate in Decemeber.

But I’m in danger of being dropped.

I am at your mercy now. Is there any way to be at 175% of the required hours? Do I know what that means? No – but I will buy myself another 25% to figure it out.

I am at your mercy, Business Office.

Do you have any work I can do to pay off my debt? Do you have offices to clean or papers to grade? I will do anything necessary. Six hours. Between me and a doctoral degree.

Between

It may as well be the day before my very first class.
